"History looks different when the contributions of women are included." -- the National Women's History Project
The Month of March has been designated as National Women's History Month. In 1981, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Rep. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) co-sponsored a joint Congressional resolution proclaiming a National Women's History Week. In 1987, Congress expanded the celebration to a month, and March was declared Women's History Month. It is a time when we all reflect on the contributions that women have made in history. When we think about how the world would be different without women like Harriet Tubman (helped slaves find their way to freedom during the Civil War), Susan B. Anthony (fought for the right for women to vote) and Dr. Sally Ride (first American woman to go into space).
Your assignment will be to write a short essay (minimum of 5 complete sentences) about a woman who has been inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.
Each student will select and read about one woman who has made – or is making – history, by navigating to the National Women's Hall of Fame website. After you READ the information and learn about the contributions of the woman your choice you will write your essay explaining who the woman is and what she did, or is doing, to be inducted into this Hall of Fame.
